The March on Washington, 2020
At Getty Images, we understand the power of imagery to move the world–for the good of society, commerce, and creativity– and we strive to share unique stories from the content creators who move us. As part of Black History Month, we invite you to look beyond the imagery and witness the power of personal experience through the words of our contributors in a new series, Voices Behind the Camera. In this first installment, Staff News Photographer Michael M. Santiago discusses photographing 2020's March on Washington and reflects on the impact of this experience on his work and career.

Finding a passion for photography during his high school years, Michael received his B.F.A. at San Francisco Art Institute and a Master's of Science from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. His work has been featured in The New York Times, Slate, ESPN's The Undefeated, PBS Newshour, The San Francisco Chronicle, Scientific American and The Guardian. Based in Brooklyn, NY, Michael covers stories across the East Coast ranging from health, to politics, to social and cultural issues.
