Plastic is, without a doubt, one of the most ubiquitous materials consumed by society. Its toxic impact on the environment is undeniable. As a result, there are growing numbers of campaigns and policies underway to decrease our consumption of plastic. More and more consumers are adopting lifestyle changes and embracing a more sustainable way of living.

These growing shifts in consumer behavior are reflected in our customer search data. In 2018, for example, ‘reusable’ was a strong trending search theme: 'Reusable bag/coffee cup' increased by 1437%, 'Reusable ‘water bottle’ went up by +800%, and ‘Reusable straw’ grew by +3300%. Marriott, the world's largest hotel chain, recently announced that it will no longer provide guests with toiletries in single‑use plastic bottles.

When it comes to visual choices, brands are also listening to their customers by choosing visuals that are, quite simply, plastic‑free! Moving away from visuals that feature single‑use plastics, reusable bottles, coffee cups, bags, and straws are key details in all kinds of visual stories that appeal to today's conscientious consumers.
