When embarking on the creation of our partnership with the collective of New Wave JA, director  Lindsey Lodenquai, and art director Christina Ihekowaba chose to work with the hyper talented, Nickii Kane who is originally from Montego Bay, St James.   After graduation from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts where she attained a bachelor’s in visual communication, Nickii developed her career in both photography and videography focusing on creating rich, intimate portraits working with creatives in the fashion, music and entertainment worlds.

Nickii and Christina sought the help of producer Saffron Parker and hair stylist Jo Benee Morris, to recognize the work that needed to be done to highlight and celebrate the beauty and diversity of Black hair.  Together the team set out to create a series that examined the geographical and cultural relations between African and Jamaican hair, thus creating more content that better represents the Caribbean and our black diaspora.

Models Amanyea Stines,  Christina Akina Emanuel, Leanne Vanessa Humphrey and Kalia‑Shea Silburn‑Hall‑Reid were the muses who became masterpieces that allow the viewer a peek at some ways Black hair can be styled and proudly reflecting women’s social connection and cultural self‑expression through intricately styled hair.
